Career and Achievements

Graduated in Music Education (Universidad de Concepción, Chile), since 2013 Espinosa has been a student of Maestro Rodrigo Navarrete and, from 2020, he continued his studies with Renata Lamanda.

The bass-baritone has participated in numerous masterclasses with maestros such as: Plácido Domingo, Jaume Aragall, Mariella Devia, Eva Mei, Davide Livermore, Ruggero Raimondi, Ricardo Tamura, Roger Vignoles, Alex Esposito, Jessica Pratt, and Christian Senn.

Since 2015, he has been awarded an annual scholarship (Corporación de los Amigos del Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Chile), upgrading to the international scholarship in 2018. In 2016, Espinosa played “Rocco” in Fidelio for the movie “For Love & Justice: In the Footsteps of Beethoven’s Rebel Ópera” (Dir.: Kerry Candale). He has also traveled to various countries, participating in the “ISing Festival for Young Artists” in Suzhou, China; the “Berlin Opera Academy” in Germany; and the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo of the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia, Spain.

About his roles, Espinosa has played “The Second Armed Man” from The Magic Flute (W. A. Mozart), “Prospero Salsapariglia” from Viva la Mamma (G. Donizetti), “Barón Duphol” from La Traviata and “Lodovico” from Otello (G. Verdi), “Fígaro” from Le Nozze di Figaro, “Uberto” from La Serva Padrona (G. B. Pergolesi), “Der Professor/Der Bankier/Die Medizinrat” from Lulu (Alban Berg), “Yakusidé” from Madama Butterfly (G. Puccini), and “Deputati Fiamminghi” from Don Carlo (G. Verdi) under the baton of Maestro Ramón Tebar and Plácido Domingo in the cast, “Colas” from Bastien und Bastienne (W. A. Mozart), Davide Livermore as the regista, with the last three taking part at the Palau de Les Arts, Reina Sofía, Spain.

Espinosa has also sung sacred repertoire, being part of the “Lutheran Mass” in G Major, “Jesus” (Saint John’s Passion), and the cantatas 121, 155, and 64 from J. S. Bach. “Stabat Mater” and “Petite Messe Solennelle” from G. Rossini, conducted by Fabio Biondi in his original version at the Palau de Les Arts, and also played with the Europa Galante baroque orchestra at the MusikFest 2018 in Bremen, Germany.

In 2019, he played the “Count of Ceprano” from Rigoletto at the Palau de Les Arts (Dir.: Roberto Abbado, Reg.: Emilio Sagi). In 2020, Espinosa debuted as “Leporello” in Don Giovanni (Teatro Regional del Maule, Chile).

Espinosa joined the YAP “Fabbrica dell’Opera di Roma” in Italy, where he debuted as “Rotniy” from Eugene Onegin (Dir.: James Conlon, Reg.: Robert Carsen), “Marchese D’Obigny” in the Opera-Film La Traviata (Dir.: Daniele Gatti and Mario Martone). He also played “Commissario Imperiale” from Madama Butterfly (Dir.: Donato Rezetti and Alex Olle from Fura dels Baus), and “Padron Bu” in the world premiere of Acquaprofonda, from Giovanni Sollima.
