Alessandro Abis
Career and Achievements
Born in Cagliari in 1992, Alessandro Abis is an Italian bass who studied with soprano Elisabetta Scano. He made his operatic debut in 2014 at the age of 22 as Angelotti in Puccini’s Tosca at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, subsequently performing the same role in Trapani and Macerata, and later at the 70th Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago (2024) under the direction of Pier Luigi Pizzi, as well as at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (2025).
He specialized in the Rossini repertoire with Maestro Alberto Zedda at the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro and the Rossini Opera Academy in Lunenburg, Canada. His Rossinian roles include Gran Sacerdote (Aureliano in Palmira, Rossini Opera Festival), Conte Asdrubale (La pietra del paragone, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari), Fernando (La gazza ladra, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari), Don Profondo and Lord Sidney (Il viaggio a Reims, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona; Teatro Rossini di Pesaro), Mustafà (L’italiana in Algeri, theatres of Pisa, Rovigo, Verona, and Cagliari), Selim (Il turco in Italia, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova), Blansac (La scala di seta, Lunenburg), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia, Paphos Aphrodite Festival, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo), and Faraone (Mosè in Egitto, Teatro Verdi di Pisa and Teatro Coccia di Novara).
As a concert soloist, he has performed Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and the Petite messe solennelle under the direction of Alberto Zedda in Lunenburg and at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona.
Beyond the Rossini repertoire, his roles include Baldassarre (La favorita by Donizetti, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari), Noè (Il diluvio universale by Donizetti, Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo), Conte Robinson (Il matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona and Luglio Musicale Trapanese), Leporello and Masetto (Don Giovanni by Mozart, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and Teatro Filarmonico di Verona), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte by Mozart, Opéra de Nice), Ferrando (Il trovatore by Verdi, Japan Opera Festival), Timur (Turandot by Puccini, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari and Teatro Comunale di Bologna), Conte Rodolfo (La sonnambula by Bellini, Piccolo Opera Festival), Don Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti, National Opera and Ballet of Skopje), Ashby (La fanciulla del West by Puccini, theatres of Tuscany, Modena, and Ravenna), and Principe di Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur by Cilea, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona and Teatro Cilea di Reggio Calabria).
In 2017, he was selected for the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival, where he performed alongside Plácido Domingo in Verdi’s I due Foscari. His awards include First Prize at the 70th edition of the European Community Competition for Young Opera Singers at the Teatro Sperimentale “A. Belli” in Spoleto (2016), the Jury Prize at the 2nd Portofino International Opera Competition, and the 26th International Award “Opera – Città di Mondovì” as an emerging voice.
Most recently, he performed at the Italian Senate’s annual Christmas Concert, organized by RAI Parlamento with the participation of the Fondazione Arena di Verona, celebrating the institution’s centenary.
