Career and Achievements
Currently Kapellmeister at the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern, Italian pianist and conductor Massimiliano Iezzi has appeared at renowned venues such as the Tonhalle Zurich, Konzerthaus Berlin, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Philharmonie Berlin, Teatro La Fenice, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Staatsoper Berlin, as well as with orchestras like the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Staatsorchester Hamburg, Pfalzphilharmonie Kaiserslautern, Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, Staatsorchester Cottbus, the Cherubini Orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Magdeburgisches Staatsorchester, Staatsorchester Darmstadt.
2023-2024 he was selected as Assistant Conductor to M°Kent Nagano at the Staatsoper Hamburg and to M°Christoph Eschenbach at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Since 2023, he has been a répétiteur and assistant at the Bayreuth Festival, and in the 2022-2023 season, he held the role of répétiteur and conductor at the Staatstheater Cottbus. Since 2017, he has been a guest conductor for numerous orchestras in the Czech Republic, Romania, and Germany. In 2023, he was selected among 300 applicants to participate in the prestigious “Italian Opera Academy” held by M°Riccardo Muti, conducting Bellini’s Norma.
Massimiliano has extensive experience in opera, having assisted renowned conductors such as Markus Stenz, Jörg-Peter Weigle, Daniele Squeo in numerous productions. Highlights include assisting Wagner’s Parsifal at Bayreuther Festspiele, Puccini’s Bohème, Tosca, and Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier at the Staatstheater Cottbus, and conducting Operas such as L’heure Espagnole, Der Rosenkavalier, Der Fledermaus.
In the Season 24/25 Massimiliano conducted Mozart Der Zauberflöte, Gounod Werther, Kalman Gräfin Mariza, Puccini Madama Butterfly, Kurt Weill Sieben Todsünden und Der Zar lässt sich fotografieren, a dance Production with Mozart Requiem and other pieces of Mozart. He also led many symphonic concerts and appeared as both soloist and conductor in Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 in a russian music program.
His Season 25/26 includes Mozart Don Giovanni, Puccini La Bohème, Jesus Christ Superstar, Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet, Ravel L’Enfant et les sortilèges and L’heure Espagnole, Weinberg Mazel Tov, and many other symphonic projects.
As a pianist, Massimiliano has performed concertos by Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, and Rachmaninov with several orchestras. He regularly collaborates with artists such as Alexander Gadjiev, Ben Goldscheider and Filippo Gorini. In 2021, he won the Respighi International Competition alongside tenor Lawrence Halksworth as a Lied duo. He also served as a collaborative pianist for international competitions, including the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition, as well as for institutions like the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, and theaters such as the Staatsoper Berlin and Deutsche Oper Berlin. He gave piano and chamber music Masterclasses at institutions such as the Escuela Reina Sofía in Madrid.
Massimiliano began playing the piano at the age of 13 and graduated few years later with honors and distinction in Piano at the Rinaldo Franci Conservatory in Siena and at the International Piano Academy in Imola. He later studied and graduated in Korrepetition and Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. His artistic development is supported by M°Riccardo Muti, Alexander Vitlin, Markus Stenz, Christian Ehwald, and Fabio Bidini.
