Irina Churilova
Career and Achievements
Irina Churilova is a leading soprano of Mariinsky Theatre (St. Petersburg, Russia), where she performs almost 30 roles – mostly Verdi (Aida, Elisabeth, Desdemona, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Leonora in La Forza del Destino, Elena in I Vespri Siciliani, Amelia in Simon Boccanegra, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, soprano solo in Requiem), Wagner (Elisabeth, Elsa, and Eve) and Russian repertoire (Lisa, Tatyana, Iolanta, Fevronia, among others). She is the winner of such prestigious vocal competitions as Hans Gabor Belvedere (1st prize and Audience prize), Toulouse Singing Competition (2nd Grand Prize), and Francesc Viñas Singing Competition (4th prize and Russian music prize).
Among her previous international projects: Aida in Arena di Verona, in 2017; Elisabetta in Don Carlo, at Deutsche Oper Berlin, in 2021; Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, also at Deutsche Oper Berlin, in 2019 and 2021; at Grand Théâtre de Genève, in 2019; and at Teatro Regio di Parma, in 2019; Lisa in The Queen of Spades, at Gran Teatre del Liceu, in 2022, and at Savonlinna Opera Festival, in 2018; Norma at Oper Graz, in 2017, and at Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, in 2018; Montserrat Caballé Anniversary Gala at Teatro Real de Madrid and Gran Teatro del Liceu; and also Mariinsky Theatre international projects such as the title role in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, in 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2019/20, at Accademia Santa Cecilia, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Munich Philharmonie, Berlin Philharmonie, KKL Luzern, Mupa Budapest, and Paris Philharmonie; Don Carlo in Tokyo; The Queen of Spades in Baden-Baden (2015), Shanghai (2016), and Tokyo (2019); Simon Boccanegra in Rimini, in 2018; and concerts with Rotterdam Philharmonic in 2018/19 and 2021/22.
After this, Irina Churilova sang the title role in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda, at Teatro alla Scala; Lisa in Tchaikovsky’s Pikovaya Dama, at Gran Teatre del Liceu and Mariinsky Theatre; Amelia in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Princess Olga Yurevna in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Maid of Pskov, Aida, Maria in Tchaikovsky’s Mazepa, Mimi in Puccini’s La Bohème, Elisabeth in Tannhäuser and Liu, alongside Anna Netrebko as Turandot, at the Mariinsky Theatre, and Maddalena in Andrea Chenier at Teatro Lirico in Cagliari among others.
