Career and Achievements

Abramo Rosalen is graduated as an organist. After the graduation he started as a singer (bass). His stage debut was at the Venice Biennale in 2002 in the modern opera BIG BANG CIRCUS by Claudio Ambrosini (later performed also at the Verdi Theatre in Trieste and at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples). He has been performing in the main opera houses of Italy (La Scala, La Fenice, Arena di Verona, Petruzzelli, San Carlo, Comunale di Bologna, Regio di Torino, Bellini di Catania, Verdi di Trieste, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Festival Pucciniano di Torre del Lago, etc.) and in many theatres abroad (Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Valencia, Shanghai, Wuhan, Suzhou, Tokyo, Nagoya, Otsu, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Muscat, Las Palmas, etc.).

The main roles performed have been as follows. Verdi: Zaccaria in Nabucco, Jacopo Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra, Conte di Walter in Luisa Miller, Ramfis in Aida, Attila in the title role, Padre Guardiano in La Forza del Destino, Silva in Ernani, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Ferrando in Trovatore; Mozart: Leporello and Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Figaro and Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte; Rossini: Mustafà in L’Italiana in Algeri, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Oroe in Semiramide; Bellini: Oroveso in Norma, Sir Giorgio in I Puritani; Donizetti: Duke Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia and Don Pasquale in the title role; Puccini: Timur in Turandot, Colline in La Bohème, Zio Bonzo in Madama Butterfly (this one at La Scala for the opening night); More roles: Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette by Gounod, the four devils in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Polifemo in Acis e Galatea by G.F. Händel, Caronte and Plutone in Orfeo by C. Monteverdi, Simon Mago in Nerone by Boito.

He has been working with famous conductors: Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Nello Santi, Marco Armiliato, Renato Palumbo, Daniel Oren, Julian Kovatchev, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, etc.; and with stage directors like Beppe de Tomasi, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Daniele Abbado, Katia Ricciarelli, Henning Brockhaus, Damiano Michieletto, Mario Pontiggia, among others.

In his repertoire are also included sacred and secular works: Monteverdi’s Ballo delle Ingrate, Vespro della Beata Vergine; cantatas by Bach, Händel, Stradella, Caldara in collaboration with Barocco Europeo; Bach’s Mass in B minor, Johannespassion, Magnificat; Messa da Requiem by G. Verdi, G.F. Händel’s Messiah; Die Schöpfung, Cäcilienmesse and Paukenmesse by F.J. Haydn; W.A. Mozart’s Requiem; 9th Symphony by L. van Beethoven; Stabat Mater and Messa di Gloria by G. Rossini.
