Irakli Kakhidze performs Don José in Carmen at Oper Leipzig

Tenor Irakli Kakhidze will perform the role of Don José in Carmen at the Oper Leipzig in May and June 2026.

One of the most beloved masterpieces of the French operatic repertoire, Georges Bizet’s Carmen brings its passionate atmosphere, unforgettable melodies, and dramatic intensity to the stage of Leipzig. Since its premiere, the opera has remained a cornerstone of international opera houses, celebrated for its vibrant orchestration and psychologically compelling characters.

In the role of Don José, Irakli Kakhidze portrays the conflicted soldier whose obsessive love for Carmen leads him into an increasingly tragic spiral of jealousy, desire, and despair. A role of great emotional and vocal intensity, Don José stands among the most iconic tenor characters in the operatic repertoire.

Performances are scheduled for May 14 and 25, and June 7, 2026.
