Conductor Rafael Sánchez-Araña will lead performances of El gato montés at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in June 2026.

Featuring music and libretto by Manuel Penella and staged by renowned director Christof Loy, El gato montés returns to Madrid in a production that celebrates one of the most iconic titles of the Spanish lyric repertoire.

Blending the dramatic intensity of opera with the vibrant spirit of zarzuela, the work is known for its passionate atmosphere, folkloric color, and powerful musical language. Since its premiere in 1916, El gato montés has remained one of the defining masterpieces of Spanish musical theater.

On the podium of the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Rafael Sánchez-Araña will conduct performances on June 26, 27, and 28, 2026, bringing to life the rich orchestral palette and dramatic energy of Penella’s celebrated score.
