Mezzo-soprano Nozomi Kato will perform the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at the Lyric Opera of Chicago from March 14 to April 12, 2026.

Giacomo Puccini’s celebrated masterpiece returns to Chicago in an innovative new production created by an entirely female creative team, offering a fresh perspective on one of the most beloved works in the operatic repertoire.

On the stage of the Lyric Opera, Nozomi Kato will portray Suzuki, the loyal companion and emotional anchor of Cio-Cio-San throughout the opera’s tragic unfolding. Deeply human and compassionate, Suzuki remains one of the most touching supporting roles in Puccini’s dramatic universe.
