The Teatro Massimo in Palermo launches its 2025 season with Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, a timeless masterpiece that explores themes of love, jealousy, and betrayal. Directed by the renowned Mario Martone and conducted by Jader Bignamini, this production promises to captivate audiences with its  intensity and artistry. Set design by Margherita Palli, costumes by Ursula Patzak and lighting design by Pasquale Mari.

The Teatro Massimo Orchestra and Chorus is led by Ciro Visco, while the children’s choir is under the direction of Salvatore Punturo.

The cast of Otello features distinguished artists in key roles. Tenor Gregory Kunde takes on the title role, while soprano Maria Agresta portrays the tragic Desdemona. Baritone Luca Salsi delivers a commanding performance as Iago, the manipulative antagonist.

 

Spotlight on Adriano Gramigni

Among the talented cast, bass Adriano Gramigni plays the role of Lodovico, the Venetian ambassador whose presence brings critical moments of gravity and resolution to the story.  A graduate of the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma, Gramigni has built a reputation for his interpretations of Verdi roles and his versatility in a wide range of operatic repertoire.

Gramigni’s career highlights include performances at prestigious venues such as Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Teatro Dante Alighieri di Ravenna. His portrayal of Lodovico in Otello at Teatro Massimo surely marks another milestone in his career.
